GoRover Recommends Getting Involved!!

Most ski resorts have an adaptive winter sports program. These programs are great avenues for teaching and assisting people with special needs to ski and snowboard. Not only are these programs great for the kids and adults learning to ski and ride but GoRover wants you to know there are great opportunities to volunteer your time. I volunteered for 4 seasons with Winter Park's NSCD (National Sports Center for the Disabled) and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding endeavors I’ve been involved with. If you have special needs and would like to try skiing or snowboarding I highly recommend looking at one of these programs. If you are already a good skier or snowboarder I also highly recommend volunteering your time to one of these programs. Believe me it’s very fun and rewarding!

Nation Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD)

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) began in 1970 as a one-time ski lesson for children with amputations for the Children's Hospital of Denver.

Today, the NSCD is one of the largest outdoor therapeutic recreation agencies in the world.

Each year, thousands of children and adults with disabilities take to the ski slopes, mountain trails and golf courses to learn more about sports - and themselves. With specially trained staff and its own adaptive equipment lab, the NSCD teaches a variety of winter and summer sports and activities to individuals with almost any physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral diagnosis.

The mission of the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) is to provide quality outdoor sports and therapeutic recreation programs that positively impact the lives of people with physical, cognitive, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
